Happy Howloween!

Whew! What a day!

Mom and I both love to play dress up... it goes without saying that we look forward to Halloween every year. Every year, mom starts thinking of Halloween costumes before summer is even over, but doesn't get an idea for what to do until the last minute. Wednesday night, while she was talking to her mom (my old mom... now my granny, I guess? so confusing!) it was decided that she wanted to show me off in the Haute Dog Howl'oween Parade. As you may have guessed, it's a big parade of costumed dogs and their owners that happens in our city every year. Mom doesn't believe in store bought costumes (snob!), so she rushed to the fabric store as soon as she hung up the phone, and got all the things to make our costumes. She got out the sewing machine, looked up patterns online, and schemed at work all the next day. As soon as she got home Thursday, it was business. Cutting patterns out of junk mail, and sewing what she could before bed. She didn't get another chance to work on our costumes until yesterday, and oh boy did she. All day, it was cutting more patterns out of junk mail, snipping and clipping of fabric and faux fur, stitching away (and ripping a lot of seams before stitching again). I did my best to help whenever she laid fabric on the floor (everyone knows how much easier fabric is to cut when a Scottie stands on it! Common knowledge, that is). The sun went down, the night drew on, and for a while we weren't sure if we'd be ready in time, but luck was on our side!

She's definitely not the most convincing wolf to my Little Red Riding Hood, but I guess that's what happens when you improvise. I was too interested in everything going on to pause for a good pic, so apologies that you just get a side view, but there was just so much neat stuff to see!

To be honest, I was getting pretty nervous at the idea of being around so many strange people and dogs, but I powered through it and did great. I let strangers pet me, let other dogs sniff me, and even sniffed them back!

The downside to being in the parade is that you don't actually get to watch it, so we didn't get very many pictures. We did snag a few though, and these were out favorites..

Yeah, X-Files! That's our show! Left to right, the Alien, Fox Mulder, Walter Skinner, and Dana Scully.

A closer picture of Mulder

The Space Shuttle Endeavour! How cool is that?!

It was great to be around so much creativity, and we had a great time. Maybe next year we can decide on a costume when we have more than 2 days to make it (won't hold my breath).

Mom wanted me to put my costume back on for a pic, but I am tuckered out. I told her she could put it on me as long as I didn't have to move.

Taken last night during a fitting. I had it worked out that if she wanted me to try it on, she had to rub my belly before I would get up. heh heh heh

All right peeps. it's time to nap. Hope you all have a happy Halloween!

We've entered Carrleigh in Blue Buffalo's costume contest. If she wins, we get a year's worth of free food (and, believe me, we could sure use it!). Please take a quick moment to vote for my baby girl.

Since I can't link directly to her page, click the link and go to "Entries" at the top right, then below that, click the magnifying glass to the right of the drop down menu, and search for "Carrleigh."
